Our heritage
28NOVEMBER
A flag. A shared history.
A community together.
The meaning of Flamur
Flamur means “flag” in Albanian. Our celebration honours Albanian Flag Day and Independence Day, commemorated on 28 November. On 28 November 1912, Ismail Qemali raised the Albanian flag in Vlorë and declared Albania’s independence. The red flag and its black double-headed eagle remain a powerful symbol of Albanian identity. For our community in Shepparton, Flamur is a chance to celebrate our heritage, share it with the next generation and bring family and friends together.
