We were blessed with amazing weather at our annual Harvest Festival on Sunday 20 March 2016. More than 3000 people enjoyed a day of music, dancing and food that celebrated Albanian culture.
Our president Enver Sabri said it was one of the bigger crowds we’ve had. “It’s the first year we’ve really advertised and opened it up to everyone.”
The festival was also attended by Kosovo ambassador Sabri Kicmari from Canberra, Member for Shepparton Suzanna Sheed, Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Dinny Adem, and members of the Albanian North Sunshine Eagles Soccer Team.
The event formed part of the Shepparton Festival and was proudly sponsored by Shepparton Show Me.

Live music and tasty Albanian foods were enjoyed by about 700 people at the annual Shepparton Albanian Harvest Festival on Sunday, 29 March 2015 at the Shepparton Showgrounds.
Now operating for over 15 years, the Harvest Festival offers the local community the chance to engage with Albanian culture and sample homemade cheese, baklava, pickles and Albanian pie.
Our president, Enver Sabri, said the food was the highlight of this year’s festival. “The fruit side of things and the veggies has been a big thing for us, a lot of people come in just for the fruit and veggies.”
“It’s not to make a huge profit or anything like that, but it’s about having people come and enjoy the music and mateship.”
The Shepparton Albanian Ladies Committee had been working hard to make a range of traditional Albanian food, raising money for the Albanian community. The event was also supported by the Greater Shepparton City Council’s Arts in the Community Fund.
Albanian Society committee member Reg Qemal said the Harvest Festival was a good way to share the Albanian culture.
“The Albanians have been here since the early ’30s and are quite established here within the region.”
“I think a lot more people need to know who we are and what our culture is and this is a great way of actually sharing that to the community.”
Big thanks to our army of volunteers for making this event happen year after year. We’ll be back at the Shepparton Showgrounds on Sunday 20 March 2016 – watch the space!
