Video – Shepparton Albanian Flamur Celebrations

On Saturday, 28 November 2015, the Shepparton Albanian Society celebrated the anniversary of Albania’s Declaration of Independence with a function at the GV Hotel, Shepparton, Australia.

As part of the celebrations, a group of local Albanian children performed a series of dances set to traditional music.

Led by teacher Aida Zeqo, opportunities such as these work to ensure the traditions of our culture are kept alive for the next generation of Australian Albanians.

Video – Behind the scenes at the Harvest Festival

Ever wondered what’s involved in putting together an event like the Shepparton Albanian Harvest Festival?

This short video showcases what our event is all about and the strong community support behind it.

Thank you to I Am Jaiman for putting this clip together.

Living Recipes project

A traditional Albanian dish was recently featured as part of the Living Recipes project, commissioned by the organisers of the 2015 Shepparton Festival. Living Recipes aligns with Shepparton’s identity as the food bowl of Victoria and has unearthed, unpacked and presented produce, flavours and foods from the region’s multicultural communities.

Local photographer Liz Arcus visited seven different cultural groups in Shepparton to document them putting together a meal of importance to their culture.

So what did we, representing Albanians, feature? Petullas! The photos were combined with video to create a film that played at SPC Ardmona Factory Sales throughout the three-week festival in March. Recipe cards were also produced and distributed.

A selection of the photographs can be viewed in the gallery below. The video can viewed onlineĀ here.

Thank you to sisters Fidaret Sherif and Ramije Besim for participating in the project.
