Yesterday morning, a group of local Albanian fruit growers and volunteers gave up their time to pack fruit at Shaholli Orchards. This pack day follows on from the success of last year’s two pack days, which saw over $20,000 raised for the Shepparton Albanian Society.
Part of this money was used to upgrade the front and back fences at the mosque, which was completed last year.
The Society also made a donation to GV Hospice Care.
Thank you to everyone involved in organising this community-driven fundraising effort! We hope to make some announcements on the projects that this funding will support soon.
Today we held our last pack day of the season, packing 26 bins of premium pink lady apples, grown in Shepparton, Victoria by Albanian farmers.
Thanks again to all orchardists and suppliers who donated their fruit, packaging and labour to the project.

Part of the funds raised for the sale of the fruit will be donated to a local charity – watch the space for further announcements!
Today at 7.30am, on a freezing Autumn morning, a group of Shepparton orchardists and volunteers came together to pack fruit as a fundraising effort for our Society and other local charities.
While today’s session focused on packing Packham and Josephine pears, another day is scheduled in the coming weeks for Pink Lady apples.
Check out the video for more information about the project.

A traditional Albanian dish was recently featured as part of the Living Recipes project, commissioned by the organisers of the 2015 Shepparton Festival. Living Recipes aligns with Shepparton’s identity as the food bowl of Victoria and has unearthed, unpacked and presented produce, flavours and foods from the region’s multicultural communities.
Local photographer Liz Arcus visited seven different cultural groups in Shepparton to document them putting together a meal of importance to their culture.
So what did we, representing Albanians, feature? Petullas! The photos were combined with video to create a film that played at SPC Ardmona Factory Sales throughout the three-week festival in March. Recipe cards were also produced and distributed.
A selection of the photographs can be viewed in the gallery below. The video can viewed online here.
Thank you to sisters Fidaret Sherif and Ramije Besim for participating in the project.
