Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Councillor Kim O’Keeffe congratulated all awarded recipients and acknowledged the outstanding contributions they have made to Greater Shepparton.

Video – How to make baklava

With our Harvest Festival only weeks away the Shepparton Albanian Women’s Committee are busy preparing the traditional Albanian food for sale.

By far one of the most popular dishes is baklava – layers of pastry sweetened with syrup.

Check out this clip to appreciate the effort that goes into creating this masterpiece. It makes the few dollars you pay for a piece seem cheap in comparison!

Video – Shepparton Albanian Flamur Celebrations

On Saturday, 28 November 2015, the Shepparton Albanian Society celebrated the anniversary of Albania’s Declaration of Independence with a function at the GV Hotel, Shepparton, Australia.

As part of the celebrations, a group of local Albanian children performed a series of dances set to traditional music.

Led by teacher Aida Zeqo, opportunities such as these work to ensure the traditions of our culture are kept alive for the next generation of Australian Albanians.

Our donation to GV Hospice Care

Yesterday we celebrated the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan with morning prayers at our Mosque in Shepparton.

This gave us the perfect opportunity to present a donation of $3000 to local not-for-profit organisation GV Hospice Care. Hospice supports terminally ill patients and their families in a number of ways, including specialist medical, nursing and pastoral care, bereavement counselling and volunteer support.

Many Albanian families have utilised the free services provided by GV Hospice, so we felt it was a fitting choice when deciding which local charity to support.

Funds donated were raised as part of the two fruit packing days we held earlier in the year. Apples and pears were donated by local Albanian orchardists and were packed by an army of volunteers before being sent off for wholesale.

The balance of the funds raised from this project will go towards a major upgrade to the external grounds at the Shepparton mosque. More will be revealed very soon!
